Position Title: Assistant Program Director- Fargo (0.4 FTE)

Department: Augustana-Sanford Genetic Counseling Graduate Program

The Assistant Program Director- Fargo is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating student clinical/practicum experiences including assessments; assuring an appropriate variety and number of cases for each student; orienting new supervisors to their responsibilities; regularly overseeing and evaluating the effectiveness of each supervisor; and planning and implementing supervisor training experiences. Additionally, this individual provides course instruction and coordination for approximately two courses per academic year. In collaboration with the Program Director, Associate Program Director- San Diego, Assistant Program Director-Sioux Falls, and Co-Medical Directors, this position is responsible for planning, developing, and monitoring those aspects of the curriculum that support students’ integration of knowledge, skills, and experience into the practice of genetic counseling.
More specifically, this person will coordinate rotations in Fargo, help to match students with Master’s Graduate Project research advisors, teach for the program in the individual’s area(s) of interest and expertise, help coordinate logistics related to fieldwork rotations and classroom learning, and serve as the academic advisor for approximately 2-4 student per cohort. This would include helping with the schedule/set-up of classroom space for interactive video teaching and discussion sessions.
Clinical Role: This position is a full-time position with Sanford Health, where 0.6 FTE is spent in a clinical role and 0.4 FTE is with ¹û¶³´«Ã½. Please see the Sanford Health job description at .
Additional Responsibilities:
Participate in review and interviewing of applicants
Field program inquiries specific to the Fargo region
Participate in recruitment and marketing efforts for prospective students in the Fargo, ND region.
Participate in mentoring and overseeing some individual student projects, especially related to student projects associated with research in Fargo, ND
Curriculum and Instruction Responsibilities:
Serve as a professor for approximately 1 course each semester (not including clinical courses)
Facilitate incorporation of 'clinical experiences' into the classroom (e.g., patients as teachers and other experiential encounters)
Provide academic counseling and maintain availability for remedial instruction
Program Development and Outreach Responsibilities:
Participate in targeted program development and outreach activities
Assist other members of Program Leadership in writing accreditation reports, including the ACGC RCS and ACGC self study, and Program Policies and Procedures.
Augustana financially supports the APD’s participation in the GCEA annual conference and education specific to their role. The remainder of the CME funding for local, regional and/or national activities is provided by Sanford Health.
Academic Rank/Position: Assistant Professor/Assistant Program Director-Fargo
Employment Status: Full time; The Assistant Program Director-Fargo shall devote 40% of their time to the Augustana-Sanford Genetic Counseling Graduate Program, and 60% of their time to clinical/patient responsibilities with the Sanford Health-Fargo system.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling, American Board of Genetic Counseling (or ABMG) certification, 3 years’ experience as a genetic counselor. Has to hold or be able to obtain a North Dakota genetic counselor license. Candidates with experience in leadership and a ‎record ‎of achievement in developing, implementing, and assessing innovative approaches for the ‎‎education and training of genetic counseling students are desired. ‎
