The ¹û¶³´«Ã½ School of Health Professions supports future health care and medical professionals with in-depth classroom education and nearby clinicals through strong partnerships with major hospitals and clinics. The programs in this school have a trusted history of producing highly qualified nurses, athletic trainers, and professionals all across the field of health care.
Meet the Dean
Dr. Matt Volansky, of Naples, Florida, joined Augustana as the director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Along with his role as dean of the School of Health Professions, Volansky continues to lead Augustana’s DPT program through the processes of accreditation.
Volansky earned a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from the University of Toledo at Medical College of Ohio, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in health care from Baldwin-Wallace College, DPT from Northeastern University and Ph.D. in biomedical informatics from Rutgers University. Volansky came to AU from the University of Mount Union, where he was an assistant professor. He has also been involved in private practice for more than 25 years.

¹û¶³´«Ã½ and Dr. Lucas Hamilton, assistant professor of psychology and director of the aging studies program, are partnering with Active Generations — a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting positive aging for adults. The partnership will kick off with the 2025 Lifelong Learning Program, where Hamilton will host a series of interactive TED Talk-style sessions at both of Active Generations’ locations. The sessions, which are scheduled to start in April, will focus on well-being, the power of music and brain health. Learn more at augie.edu/LifelongLearning.
Thanks to an initial gift and a strong international partnership, six Augustana students and a faculty member spent the 2024 spring semester studying in Costa Rica. With a successful semester under their belts, Augustana and the International Programs Office (IPO) are seeking ways to expand this enriching partnership.
Augustana is proud to announce that the university’s Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) graduates within its School of Health Professions achieved a 95.5% pass rate in 2023 — the highest of all 4-year BSN programs in South Dakota, and the third highest among all RN programs in the state. In addition, Augustana’s December 2023 Accelerated Nursing Program graduates achieved a 100% pass rate.
