Assistant Football Coach – Wide Receivers 

¹û¶³´«Ã½ (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Football Coach – Wide Receivers. The Assistant Coach provides administrative, instructional, academic and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the Head Coach. This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the sport program as well as possible additional responsibilities as assigned within the athletic department.

Additionally, the position is responsible to the Head Football Coach for assisting and directing the management of the football team. Specific responsibilities include but not limited to: coaching a defensive/offensive position, coordinating the staff and players on the defense/offense, as well as recruitment of student athletes to the Football program.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Emphasis placed on daily activities that benefit the student-athlete experience.

• Understanding that the student-athlete welfare is a top priority and should be a high priority in the daily interaction and job responsibilities.

• Coordinate and manage specific aspects of defensive/offensive staff and positions as directed by Head Coach. Direct the planning, organization, and execution for on field coaching duties, practice sessions, and competition responsibilities of defensive/offensive staff with the Head Coach.

• Direct game day organization and assignments.

• Coordinate evaluation of opponents and the development of a game plan in accordance with assistants and positions.

• Perform recruiting responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach to meet the objectives of the university and team, including evaluation, contact, and establishing relationships with prospective student-athletes and coaches.

• Responsible for supervision, instruction and direction of student-athletes as assigned by the Head Coach.

• Assist Head Coach in all day-to-day operations of the sport program.

• Coordinate student athlete activities including but not limited to recruiting, conditioning, and academic services as needed and designated by the Head Coach.

• Teach the assigned classes assigned by the department with professional integrity and university expectations.

• Support, abide and enforce all academic guidelines and policies of the university, athletics department and Football program to insure academic progress of the student-athlete as directed by the Head Coach.

• Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Equipment, Student Development, NCAA Compliance, Media Relations etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.

• Assist with administrative functions of the Football program as directed by the Head Coach. Perform duties with professional conduct, being fiscally responsible and with a commitment to student-athlete well-being.

• Abide by all written policies, procedures, and guidelines of ¹û¶³´«Ã½ and the Department of Athletics. Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct.

• Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, University staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.

• Adhere to all NCAA and Conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies.

• Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Previous high school or college coaching experience

• Preferred master’s degree

• Preferred former student-athlete

Graduate Fellowship for Athletic Communications

¹û¶³´«Ã½ (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for a Graduate Fellowship for Athletic Communications, 12-month Master’s in Sports Administration and Leadership program, averaging 15 hours per week, within our Athletics Department. 

An Augustana graduate fellowship or scholarship is offered to students pursuing a Master of Sports Administration & Leadership (MSAL) who must execute 480 internship hours within the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Athletics Department. This is an unpaid position that offers a 50% tuition benefit, and is based on admission into the Augustana MSAL Program and completion of this application, including the required essay and an interview with a member of the athletics department. AU graduate fellowships are competitive with limited availability per area of interest. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree prior to starting the AU MSAL Program. Student-athletes and graduate assistants are not eligible for a graduate fellowship. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:  

• The graduate fellow will work closely with the athletic communications staff to assist with operational needs of an NCAA Division II athletic program that competes at the NCAA Division I level in men’s hockey, and will receive an invaluable experience working with our programs, student-athletes, coaches, and campus staff. 

• Assist with organizing and recording game statistics at athletic events.

• Assist with facilitate day-to-day operations within the athletics communication’s office (produce weekly game notes, assist with players of the week nominations.

• Assist with scheduling and coordinating student athlete and coaches’ interviews for assigned sports.

• Assist with game day webcasting, writing storylines, game notes, news releases, and social media content.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

• A knowledge of athletic communications (i.e., statistics, pre/post-game story writing, social media)

• Assist with developing promotional strategies (i.e., athletic events, theme nights, and special events) to increase gameday attendance and enhanced fan experience.

• Assist with collaboration of campus groups, local businesses, and community organizations to increase visibility and foster community involvement in athletic events.

• Assist with fulfilling sponsor obligations, including executing promotions, recognizing sponsors during events, and ensuring proper signage and branding.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sports management, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.

• Relationship-based sales and marketing experience, preferably in a collegiate or professional sports setting.

• Experience in event planning, promotions, or game day operations.

  • Assist with daily interactions via phone, email, and walk-ups.

• Event Support (25%)

  • Assist with the preparation and game-day management of Football, Volleyball, Men’s Ice Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Wrestling, and other Olympic sports.

• Ticketing Operations (15%)

  • Assist with the maintenance and operations of the ticket software system and office equipment.

  • Manage customer accounts in the ticketing software and ensure proper handling of cash and credit card transactions, including daily deposits.

• Sales Initiatives (15%)

  • Support outbound sales efforts and various ticketing projects.

  • Assist with season ticket renewals and focus on client retention.

• Complimentary Ticket Management (10%)

  • Coordinate athletics staff and donor (Viking Club) ticket benefits.

  • Administer pass lists in accordance to NCAA, NSIC, and CCHA policies.

• Compliance (5%)
